With the success of miniPAH : San Francisco in 2007, PAH Nation returns to this vibrant, artistic city to present a full-scale PAH-FEST Bay Area on August 10-17, which will take place simultaneously at the San Francisco Art Institute and Oakland School for the Arts.
This new media film making festival will feature 10 Mobiflicks teams, Cellphone Art, DigiPortraits, Tone Poems and Circus Vision.
Featured speaker will be independent, avantgarde SF filmmaker Rob Nilsson, who directed such films as "Northern Lights," which received the top award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1979. The creative panel will include a diverse group of local artists in the Bay Area. Live webcasts will take place throughout the festival, so join us for PAH-FEST Bay Area 2008.
Mobiflicks Competition
We are now accepting submissions for the Mobiflicks competition. See the button on the right hand side of the home page at www.pahnation.org. Mobiflicks is where you and a team of your friends submit an idea for a 6 minute video (documentary or fiction) that has something to do with the community in which you live. Submit it in paragraph form - about 250 words or less. If chosen, you and your friends will get to make your movie with the help of PAH. We will provide equipment and coaching - and you have a chance to win $1000! Other contests will be going on throughout the week of the festival and you are invited to participate in any or all of them. Check the website for our schedule of events and we hope to see you there!
Cellphone Art
Shoot a one minute piece of video using a video-enabled cellphone or one provided. A surprise topic will be given before the contest and the contestants will have just a few hours to create their piece.
DigiPortraits
This contest will feature a short video portrait of you or another person. B.Y.O.G. (Bring Your Own Gear) or use equipment we provide for you — including an Adobe editing system.
Circus Vision
A new concept for PAH, kids 14 and under will be able to participate in a smart phone visual treasure hunt and win a prize for themselves and their schools.
Tone Poems
Using a video-enabled cell phone, participants record imagery that visually expresses an original musical composition. Computers, editing software and technical support are provided to help participants edit and complete their pieces.
